Yoga found me when I lived in the sunny Maldives seven years ago and soon after I took my first course in the UK with Katy Appleton. I have been hooked ever since! At the time I travelled a lot and yoga helped ground me, no matter what time zone I was in. Not only has my mat visited some fabulous places, but my yoga itself has been a fabulous journey.
I was inspired by its simplicity and complexity and have found it of great help to balance and navigate my life, most recently as a first time mum and also with managing my scoliosis. Through yoga I'm learning not to expect perfect postures, or perfection in life, but to accept what is true for me on and off the mat.
It's a bit like a magic wand that offers something for everyone. My
toddler son adores it, even if he is the most mischievous yogi in the
room at times! Nearly every yogi I know finds that it benefits them much
more than they ever thought possible.
When the opportunity presented itself to train as a teacher with
appleyoga, I was thrilled. Delighted to take my yoga practice and study
further, and inspired by my musician husband who lives his passion every
day, I completed the applecore teacher training in 2010. Sharing the
magic of yoga with others as they step onto their mat and into their
yogic journey is a true gift.
What are you inspired by?
My loving family and friends. The ocean and travel... I get excited
even if I'm at the airport dropping or collecting someone else!
Why yoga?
The journey is calmer, richer and more rewarding with yoga as part of
it. The physical and health benefits have been especially great for me.
If yoga didn't exist, what exercise would you turn to?
Walking and diving
What music do you listen to?
I'm open to all kinds of music, but some favourites are India Arie, Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Jayson Norris, U2, Madonna and Abba.
Favourite asana?
Downward facing dog
Hardest asana?
This varies, but back bends are often challenging for me
Words of wisdom?
Inspired by others:
'Be the change you want to see in the world.' - Gandhi
'Smile more often and always carry a clean handkerchief' - my grandmother
Ideal weekend?
Being barefoot by the ocean and scuba diving or being wrapped up warm on
a sunny autumn day, picking apples with my son in my parents' orchard.
Most definitely it would include family, friends, sunshine and yoga.
Dislikes?
Litter, dishonesty and lack of sleep
Favourite food and drink?
Thai food, anything cooked by my mum, avocados, mangos and my husband's
homemade sushi. Love fresh apple, carrot and ginger juice and am partial
to a few a glasses of champagne...
Recommended book?
Once recommended to me - Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
