Having spent my childhood training extensively for competitive sports,
I found myself with lower back problems from a very young age. After
unsuccesfully trying chiropractors and osteopaths, a friend suggested
yoga. The change in my physical body was incredible, and I haven't had
any lower back complaints since.
Like many people, my practice was initially focused around the physical part of yoga. As my practice evolved, I came to appreciate and develop the mental and spiritual aspect, leading to a deeper practice. I have come to understand yoga as a way of life, not just 'time on the mat'.
I started practicing yoga in Australia, while studying an Early Childhood Degree. My teacher at the time encouraged me to begin teaching yoga to children, which lead to teaching adult yoga.
In 2004 I left Australia to travel the world, and try different yoga styles and techniques. I have been lucky enough to train under some wonderful teachers both here in the UK and in India. I completed formal teacher training through Yoga Scotland in 2007 and have recently become a qualified yoga for pregnancy teacher through the British Wheel of Yoga. In 2009 I am heading back to the classroom to study a Yoga Sports Science Degree, hoping to expand my knowledge of the human body and how yoga can assist athletes in their training.
