Lisa AskemLisa's teaching philosophy is one that revolves around consciously developing a 'living' Yoga practice and gaining a feeling of balance in life. There is a great focus on developing confidence and strength in body and mind. During her time as a teacher Lisa has developed a great talent and knowledge in teaching Pre and Post Natal Yoga with over 12 years experience this is her main area of expertise.

Lisa worked as a fashion designer whilst training to teach yoga.  Having practised yoga for several years it was when she was pregnant with her daughter India in 1992 that she started to teach yoga. Since that time feeling the benefits for herself continued with her personal practice and continued to teach throughout her second pregnancy with Rafe in 1997. In her own words Lisa say's "Yoga enabled me to balance  life/work and family life. However it was only when I gave up on everything that I knew and sat quietly and let go of what everyone might think of me that  new opportunities came and I was able to create a new life style. Teaching yoga and having control over my time and being the person  that I am meant to be".
Lisa also works with several local midwives and is currently involved with bringing these classes to local hospitals.
She has had articles published for Yoga Magazine on yoga and pregnancy.  Her practice is intuitive and in keeping with the quality of the daily energy.
Classes are organic and the group dynamic is vital to the energy being created. Everyone has a place.  In pre and post natal classes Lisa emphasises the need for coming together at this time and sees the group as a community. Pregnancy is a time in our lives when there is great change. Yoga brings stability to our core and helps us respond with confidence to the changes allowing time for dialogue with our bodies.  We breath with our babies whilst pregnant  and go on to recreate this vital bond in post natal yoga whilst adjusting to the reality of life as a mother.
We must learn to move with our world as it moves.

What are you inspired by?
Little details in everyday living that bring a smile to my face. Compassionate people who have the energy to change  our life. Vital energy that is natural.

Why Yoga?
Because it allows me to be myself. "Warts en all"

If yoga did not exist what exercise would you turn to?
Walking very long distances and dancing.

What music do you listen to?
The brothers Johnson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Leonard Cohen,  Lauren hill. Jack Johnson,  Music to dance to sing to  and cry to.
Krishna Das to Chant along with. My daughter asks "is there anything with a normal name on your ipod"?

Favourite Asana?
Questions like these are frightening to a libran like me. Can't make up my mind.  Also depends on my mood. When practice is going well it tastes like nectar.

Hardest Asana?
Sorry everyone but what looks hard, when overcome is actually easy.
When practice is not going well - arhh some postures have made me feel very sick.

 Words of Wisdom?
This is your life and nobody
Is going to teach you, no book, no guru.
Learn from yourself, not from books.
It is an endless thing, a fascinating thing and when
You learn about your self from yourself, out of that
Learning wisdom comes.
Then you can live a most extraordinary,
Happy, beautiful life.
Right?
KRISHNAMURTI

Ideal Weekend?
No structure with lots of friends. Sunshine. Cooking together  lots of laughter.

Favorite food and drink?
Fish cooked with Garlic and olive oil.  Fresh Vegetables. Beetroot. I make my own warm drink from apples and blackberries in winter. This detoxes my system from a summer of light wine, champagne and the odd cold beer

Dislikes?
Rudeness and
Pasta. I am the only person in world not to like this food?

Recommended book?
The Living Gita by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Makes me laugh out loud, often at my own expense
