Naomi AbsalomYoga first found me 10 years ago and after a very crazy but wildly enjoyable career in the music industry, it simply became too big for me to keep as a personal practice. India had been calling for years and in 2005 at the end of my tether with London and my career, I answered the call and left everything to go and train to teach.

It was very simply the start of the rest of my life. An amazing time of realisation, true soul searching and inescapable truth followed. I emerged the new me, excited about a whole new world of possibilities and eager to spread the word as much as possible, sharing with others what I had found.

The roots of my teaching are expressed through the creativity of my own personal style; a background in dance and performance and independent studies in Ayurveda, Polarity Therapy and Thai Massage.

In class I use challenging and creative sequencing, encouraging students to explore the natural and graceful flow of body and breath. Often a focus is working with mental and physical resistance; challenging perceptions of our own limitations by holding postures for longer periods of time.

I owe a great deal to some inspirational teachers whom I’ve met along this path including Ashtanga Yoga Master Shri K. Patthabis Jois, senior Sivananda Hatha Yoga teacher Prahalad Reddy, Yoga Therapy teacher Bharat Shetty, London based Faustomaria and many more.

What are you inspired by?
Change and the potential for change, music and much laughter.

Why yoga?
Suddenly you can see. It breaks down patterns and reveals the truth.

If Yoga did not exist what exercise would you turn to?
Dance! If it weren’t for Michael Flatley I would be the Lord of the Dance!

What music do you listen to?
Everything and anything - Anima Sound system, Theivery Corporation, Krishna Das, Radiohead - music is my biggest passion and one of man’s greatest inventions.

Favourite Asana?
It has to be downward dog. As soon as you get into it you are transported to that special place.

Hardest asana?
Shoulder stand.

Words of wisdom?
"I don’t care if you’re levitating on cloud nine, get down those stairs and help me with the hoovering" (Mum, post India!)

Ideal weekend?
I just had one recently - sea, sky, sun, country walks, country pubs, great friends, laughter, competitive scrabble, dancing, sleep! Bliss.

Favorite food and drink?
Thai curry with a big glass of Rioja.

Dislikes?
Chewing gum. Wrong on so many levels.

Recommended Book?
"Jonathan Seagull" - we all need to learn how to fly high!!
