Vanessa Birley-Kline I began my yoga studies in 1995. Having studied many forms of hatha yoga, I finally found my home in Anusara yoga (which means flowing with grace). I am an affiliated Anusara teacher, having studied with John Friend (founder of Anusara yoga) and then extensively with certified Anusara teacher, Sarahjoy Marsh in Portland, Oregon. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance.

I have been greatly influenced by my other main teacher, Mary Paffard who has taught me much about the belly and breath. I bow also to Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten, and Shiva Rea; and am currently exploring the Scaravelli method.

As a mum to my two daughters, I have great respect for listening to the body both during pregnancy and after. My teaching style stems from my own experiences, alongside Anusara's elegant alignment principles, whilst always celebrating the heart's wisdom, and honouring our individuality.

As well as being a yoga teacher I am also a certified birth doula (CBI), recognized birth doula with Doula UK; massage therapist; and Birthing From Within mentor in training.

What are you inspired by?
Music, the sound of Sanskrit, my students (especially the 7 year olds) positive attitudes, radiant people, India.

Why yoga?
So I can get to know myself better, both on and off my mat

If Yoga did not exist what exercise would you turn to?
Running, Swimming, Dancing.

What music do you listen to?
Coldplay, Gorillaz, Keane, Boticelli, Natalie Merchant, Wah!

Favourite Asana?
Sun & Moon salutations.
Side plank.
Half moon pose.

Hardest asana?
Arm balances!

Words of wisdom?
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined."

Ideal weekend?
Breakfast in bed!
Time spent with my girls as well as time for myself.
Exploring somewhere new and good food.
Being on the beach would be my ultimate great weekend!

Favorite food and drink?
Organic dark chocolate. Strawberries. Greek yoghurt with honey.
Green tea.

Dislikes?
Feeling like I’m in a hurry.
